Anti-Mtb Medicinal Plant Database

OVERVIEW

Tuberculosis is one of the deadliest infectious diseases caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. With the increase in resistant strains of tuberculosis, the need for the discovery of new drugs with minimum side effects is the need of the hour. The utilization of Medicinal plants for their healing abilities has been an integral component of the Indian culture. The phytochemicals extracted from these plants have unique medicinal properties. Having known their importance, in drug designing it becomes evident that it is necessary to provide all the relevant phytochemicals together on one platform. In the present study, a manually curated Anti-Mtb Medicinal Plant Database (AMMPDB Ver.1.1) has been formulated. The current version of the database provides the users, with selective Indian medicinal plants having anti-tubercular properties reported in Ayurveda. The plants are arranged in alphabetical order. The database provides traditional and phytochemical data related to the plants. The unique feature of the database is the catalogued tools utilized in structure-based drug designing. Primarily, the focus has been on the phytochemicals to further facilitate the process of computational drug designing to combat the resistant strains.

AMMPDB Ver 1.1 is a curated Anti-Mtb medicinal plants database containing Indian medicinal plants with anti-tubercular properties. AMMPDB Ver.1.1 has been constructed through literature mining and manually curating information from books and several other databases which are freely accessible web resources. The current version incorporates both traditional and chemical information. The schematic figure 1 gives an overview of the AMMPDB Ver.1.1 database construction pipeline.

The database contains Indian medicinal plants with their reported phytochemicals and their respective medicinal properties. The two-dimensional (2D) and the three-dimensional (3D) chemical structures for the phytochemicals have been provided, which can be downloaded SDF format.

The databases also deploy various tools which can give further insight into the process of drug designing.

To summarise, AMMPDB Ver 1.1 is the first database on Indian medicinal plants with anti-tubercular properties. This is an effort to culminate and digitize the plentitude of information scattered across the web to aid further in plant-based drug discovery.
